Apanui is a well
resourced, decile 5, primary school with approximately 400
students in February 2013. The school is the closest school to the Whakatane CBD.
Currently there are 15 classrooms from
New Entrants to Year 6,
including three level 2 Maori Immersion classes. The immersion classes
are classified as Year 0 - 2, Year 2, 3 & 4, Year 5 & 6.

in the Apanui Primary School grounds, thanks to Ngati Awa and Te Whare
Wananga o Awanuiarangi. It is to be developed as a valuable
resource for the school,
